Why Humans Keep Putting Penguins in Greenland Memes

Hello. My name is Umka, and I am a polar bear from Greenland. I spend most of my time doing normal Arctic things: walking on ice, catching fish, watching the northern lights, and occasionally reading strange things humans post on the internet.

Recently I noticed something very confusing. Humans keep making memes about Greenland, and almost every time there are penguins in them.

Penguins.

In Greenland.

I have lived here my entire life. I walk across glaciers, swim in icy water, and talk with seals, walruses, and sometimes very old sharks. But in all those years I have never seen a penguin. Not one.

You see, penguins actually live on the opposite side of the planet — in Antarctica. That is literally the other end of the Earth. If a penguin somehow decided to visit Greenland, it would have to travel an extremely long distance and probably get very confused along the way.

But humans on the internet seem absolutely convinced that penguins and polar bears are neighbors.

Every time there is news about Greenland, suddenly the memes appear. Icebergs, snow, polar bears… and then, for some mysterious reason, a penguin standing next to us like we are old friends.

I asked a seal about this once. The seal said humans often mix things up when they make jokes online. Apparently the internet works very quickly, and accuracy sometimes gets left behind somewhere in the ocean.

It became even stranger a few years ago when humans started arguing loudly about the idea of America somehow acquiring Greenland. Suddenly my island was everywhere in the news. Humans were discussing it on television, in newspapers, and of course all over the internet. And what happened next?

More memes.

And once again — penguins.

Why Humans Keep Putting Penguins in Greenland Memes

At this point I have to admit something: I am actually curious to meet one. Humans draw them in Greenland so often that they must be interesting animals. Maybe one day a penguin tourist will finally arrive here and explain why the internet thinks we live together.

Until that day comes, I will continue my normal polar bear routine here in Greenland — watching the ice, listening to distant human news, and wondering why the world keeps putting Antarctic birds into Arctic memes.
